Most product charts fail in one of two ways. They are decorated to the point where the data is hard to read, or they are technically correct and quietly misleading, with a truncated axis or a colour scale that implies a pattern that is not there.
The approach is to pick the encoding that matches the question being asked, keep the axis honest, and reserve colour for meaning rather than variety. Density and time series get treated differently from comparison and distribution, because they are different questions.
Deliverables can be design specifications or working chart code, depending on whether your team is building it or you want it shipped.
